Features & Benefits

A practical summary of the features that matter most in daily use, including capacity, drying speed, gas heating, moisture control, fabric care, ventilation, connectivity and long-term commercial use.

Large capacity

13-18kg load range with 325 litre drum

Gives busy laundry rooms the capacity to process larger loads of towels, bedding, garments, equestrian laundry and general site laundry.

Fast drying

26 minute Cottons/Normal programme

Supports faster turnaround where laundry needs to move through wash, dry and return-to-use stages quickly. Actual times depend on load, starting moisture and site conditions.

Gas heating

18kW gas heater with low electrical load

A good option where the site has suitable gas services and wants high drying output without relying on a large electrical heating load.

AirRecycling

Reuses pre-heated process air

Helps improve drying efficiency by making better use of the heat already generated during the drying process.

PerfectDry

Residual moisture controlled drying

Helps stop the programme at the right level of dryness, reducing the risk of damp loads, excessive running time and fabric damage from over-drying.

Honeycomb drum

Gentle drying for everyday commercial textiles

The stainless steel honeycomb drum helps laundry dry evenly and carefully, supporting fabric care for towels, bedding, uniforms and residents’ laundry.

Commercial durability

40,000 tested drying cycles

Miele’s laboratory test figure supports confidence in demanding commercial use, while actual life depends on usage, maintenance and care.

Simple controls

M Select Benchmark control system

Clear programme selection, a time-left display and delay start help staff operate the dryer consistently with less day-to-day complexity.

Large fluff filter

Large surface area for easier cleaning

Routine filter care is easier for staff, helping protect airflow, drying performance and energy use in a busy laundry room.

Vented performance

Exhaust air drying for high-throughput sites

A vented dryer can be a strong choice where correct external ducting, make-up air and room ventilation can be provided.

Payment ready

Optional payment system connection

Useful for launderettes, apartment buildings, shared laundries, holiday parks and other self-service environments where payment control is required.

Connected laundry

WiFi and optional LAN module support

Supports Miele MOVE for compatible Miele Professional machines, helping with status, notifications, operating data and consumption visibility where configured.

Choosing the right machine

Is the Miele PDR 518 ROP Gas the right model for your site?

The Miele PDR 518 ROP Gas is a strong choice where the site needs a high-capacity commercial dryer, has a suitable gas supply, and can provide correct external exhaust ducting and room ventilation.

It is best suited to busy laundry rooms where throughput matters, including care, hospitality, commercial laundry, equestrian, education, leisure, shared laundry and self-service environments.

When is this dryer a good fit?

This model is a good fit where the laundry room needs larger drying capacity, short programme times and a gas-heated vented dryer rather than a smaller electric or heat pump model.

It is especially worth considering where:

  • You regularly process larger commercial loads between 13kg and 18kg.
  • The site has a suitable gas supply and can support an 18kW gas heater.
  • External exhaust ducting and suitable room ventilation can be provided.
  • You need fast drying for towels, bedding, uniforms, residents’ laundry or equestrian textiles.
  • Payment system or shared-laundry operation may be needed now or in future.

For sites with a suitable gas service and correctly designed venting, the PDR 518 ROP Gas can provide strong daily throughput with a lower electrical heating demand than a comparable electric dryer.

What should I check before choosing this model?

A gas-heated vented dryer needs more site planning than a plug-in or heat pump dryer. The main checks are the gas supply, electrical supply, ventilation, exhaust ducting, access, floor loading and the way staff will use and maintain the machine.

Before ordering, check:

  • Gas connection: The gas connection must be carried out by a registered specialist and matched to the appliance requirements.
  • Electrical supply: This gas model still requires a 230v, 10A electrical supply.
  • Exhaust ducting: The dryer must be connected to suitable exhaust ducting before use.
  • Room ventilation: The laundry room needs sufficient make-up air and must be frost-free.
  • Access and floor loading: Confirm delivery access, service access, door clearance and the 2026 N maximum floor load.

a&f can confirm whether your existing gas, electrical and ducting arrangements are suitable, and whether this model is the right size for the actual laundry volume.

Gas, ventilation and cycle times

The Miele product sheet gives a 26 minute Cottons/Normal programme, based on a defined test condition. Real cycle times depend on the load, selected programme, starting residual moisture, ducting design, airflow, ventilation and how well the lint filter and duct route are maintained.

Practical points to allow for:

  • Loads must be spun effectively in the washer before drying.
  • Blocked lint filters, restricted ducting or poor room ventilation will increase drying times.
  • Gas supply must be suitable for the 18kW heater rating.
  • A gas socket for the supply hose is not suitable because the flow rate is too low.
  • Shared exhaust ducting may need additional protection such as a non-return flap.

We will assess the site services and laundry flow before quoting, so the dryer is specified around real operating conditions rather than only brochure figures.

Replacing an older model?

Project source data lists the PDR518 family against earlier Miele dryer model references including PT8407, PT7401 and PT8403. These are useful search terms when replacing or identifying older machines.

Previous model search terms: PT8407, PT7401, PT8403

A replacement should still be checked carefully. We would confirm the footprint, load requirement, ducting route, gas supply, electrical supply, door swing, floor loading, controls and any payment system requirements before treating it as a like-for-like replacement.

When might another dryer be better?

The PDR 518 ROP Gas is not automatically the right choice for every site. Another dryer may be more suitable if the site cannot provide gas, cannot provide suitable external venting, or needs a different capacity.

Consider another option where:

  • No suitable gas supply is available: An electric variant may be more appropriate if electrical capacity is available.
  • External ducting is not practical: A heat pump dryer may be better, although cycle profile and capacity must be checked.
  • The workload is smaller: A smaller Miele dryer may give a better fit and lower capital cost.
  • The workload is higher: A larger dryer may be needed to avoid a drying bottleneck.
  • The washer is leaving loads too wet: Improving washer extraction may be as important as changing the dryer.

a&f will look at the whole laundry process, not just the dryer, so that washer capacity, extraction, drying capacity and staff workflow are matched correctly.

Hygiene, care and sector suitability

This dryer may be suitable for care, healthcare, hospitality and similar environments, but it should not be described as a thermal disinfection machine. Hygiene outcomes depend on the full laundry process.

In regulated or hygiene-sensitive environments, check:

  • The washer programme, detergent choice and handling process.
  • Segregation between clean and soiled laundry.
  • Staff procedure for loading, unloading and moving laundry.
  • Drying programme selection and avoidance of overloading.
  • Cleaning routines for fluff filters, ducts and the laundry room.

The dryer can form part of a well-managed laundry process, but the machine alone does not guarantee compliance.
