Product Overview
The Miele PWM 909 EL DV is a 9kg Performance Plus commercial washing machine with an 80 litre drum, freely programmable M Touch Pro Plus controls and a DN 70 drain valve for low-level gravity drainage.
It combines fast professional programmes with high-spin extraction. The published Cottons programme runs in 49 minutes on cold fill or 45 minutes when connected to suitable hot and cold water supplies. A 1,300 rpm spin can leave laundry at 44% residual moisture with a hot rinse, helping reduce subsequent drying time and energy consumption.
The drain valve configuration makes this model particularly relevant for care homes, healthcare sites, facilities management, veterinary and equestrian laundry, hotels, restaurants and commercial laundries where contaminated, heavily soiled or debris-laden loads require more dependable drainage than a pump machine can provide.

Features & Benefits
The main features of the Miele PWM 909 EL DV, with practical detail on capacity, drainage, wash performance, hygiene, efficiency, programmability and installation choices.
Professional capacity
9kg load with an 80 litre drum
Provides a practical balance between batch size, footprint and cycle throughput for medium-volume commercial laundry operations.
Fast wash cycles
49 minutes on cold fill or 45 minutes with hot water
Short professional programme times help keep laundry moving during busy working days. Actual times depend on programme, load and site services.
High-spin extraction
1,300 rpm with a g-factor of 518
Efficient water extraction can leave laundry at 44% residual moisture with a hot rinse, reducing pressure on the tumble dryer.
Drain valve
DN 70 low-level gravity drainage
Supports fast, dependable discharge and is better suited than a pump to laundry containing debris, animal hair, mop residue or heavy contamination.
Hygiene programmes
Disinfection rinse and temperature monitoring
Programme options and monitored wash temperatures support controlled hygiene processes where the machine is correctly configured and validated.
Lower consumption
Improved efficiency against the preceding model
Miele reports 18% lower water use and 45% lower energy use in its comparison Coloured items 60°C programme with a warm-water connection.
Flexible controls
Freely programmable M Touch Pro Plus
Wash parameters can be adjusted around the textiles, hygiene process and operating routine rather than relying only on fixed programmes.
Simple staff operation
Colour touchscreen with selectable languages
Clear programme guidance, colour-coded selection and countdown information help reduce training demands and operating errors.
Automatic load control
Water and operating parameters adjust to the load
Automatic Load Control Plus and a flow meter help avoid using the same volume of water for every load size.
Flexible chemical dosing
Detergent drawer plus up to six liquid dosing connections
Supports manual detergent use or an external dosing arrangement for more consistent chemical control across repeat programmes.
Connected laundry
LAN, WiFi and compatible digital management
Supports Miele MOVE for compatible Miele Professional machines, helping provide status, notifications, operating data and consumption visibility where configured.
Commercial durability
Tested by Miele to 30,000 operating hours
A maintenance-free synchronous motor, commercial construction and stainless steel honeycomb drum support demanding everyday use. The test figure is not a guaranteed lifespan.

Choosing the right machine
Is the Miele PWM 909 EL DV the right model for your site?
The PWM 909 EL DV is a strong choice where a 9kg commercial washer is required alongside flexible programmes, high-spin extraction and dependable gravity drainage.
Its drain valve configuration is particularly relevant for care, healthcare, veterinary, facilities management, equestrian and other applications where laundry may contain contamination, hair, dirt or larger debris that could create reliability problems for a drain pump.
When is this machine a good fit?
This model is well suited to medium-volume sites that require commercial construction, flexible programme control and a drain system capable of handling more demanding laundry.
It is especially worth considering where:
- The site regularly processes loads of up to 9kg.
- Care, healthcare or hygiene-focused laundry requires a drain valve rather than a pump.
- Laundry may contain incontinence soiling, mop debris, animal hair, equestrian dirt or other contamination.
- Fast professional programmes and reduced drying time are operational priorities.
- The site needs flexible programming, external dosing or network connectivity.
The manufacturer also identifies applications including hotels and restaurants, care homes, hospitals, facilities management, commercial laundries, laundrettes, schools, sports clubs, dry cleaners, equestrian sites and food-processing environments.
What should I check before choosing this model?
Capacity, drainage, programme configuration and services should all be checked together. Choosing solely by the 9kg capacity can result in the wrong installation or programme setup.
Before ordering, check:
- That a 9kg load and 80 litre drum match the site’s peak daily throughput.
- Whether 230v, 25A single-phase or 400v, 16A three-phase is the correct electrical variant.
- That a suitable DN 70 low-level gravity drain can be provided.
- Whether cold and hot water services are available and suitable.
- Which hygiene, specialist, dosing, payment and connectivity options are required.
The 400v variant has the more powerful 7.95 kW heater and may be preferable where rapid water heating and recovery are important.
When might another model be better?
The PWM 909 EL DV is not the right solution for every laundry. Capacity, drainage and operating pattern should determine the choice.
A different model may be better if:
- The site regularly needs to process loads larger than 9kg.
- Daily volumes would make a larger PWM912, PWM916 or higher-capacity washer more productive.
- The application is standard, non-care laundry with no heavy contamination, hair or debris and a drain pump is genuinely appropriate.
- A dedicated 230v, 25A or 400v, 16A supply cannot be provided.
- The required low-level gravity drainage cannot be created, even with feasible site alterations or a suitable plinth.
Drain pump machines should not be selected as the default alternative for care homes or healthcare laundry. These environments should normally retain a suitable drain valve or gravity drain arrangement based on the laundry risk and hygiene process.
Services, utilities and installation checks
This machine requires a correctly planned electrical supply, water services, gravity drainage, level supporting floor and sufficient maintenance access.
Published programme times are reference figures. Actual cycle duration depends on the selected programme, load, incoming water temperature, water pressure, electrical variant and site conditions.
Key installation checks include:
- 230v, 25A single-phase or 400v, 16A three-phase electrical connection.
- Cold and hot water connections using the specified threaded hose unions.
- DN 70 low-level gravity drainage with suitable position, fall and discharge capacity.
- Approximately 400 mm rear maintenance clearance and at least 50 mm side clearance.
- A level, stable floor suitable for the machine’s operating load and dynamic forces.
Where gravity drainage is required by the laundry process, a site survey may identify options such as altering the waste position or installing the machine on an appropriate plinth.
Replacing an older model?
The PWM 909 may be relevant when replacing several previous Miele commercial washing machines, but it should not be treated as a direct replacement based only on capacity.
Historic models associated with the PWM909 family include:
- PW6080
- WS5073MOP
- WS5080 and WS5508
- WS5107
- W6073 and W706
The replacement survey should compare footprint, electrical supply, water connections, drain height, drainage diameter, programme requirements, chemical dosing and the actual laundry being processed.
Compliance, hygiene and environment
The PWM 909 includes tested virucidal efficacy, proven hygiene features, disinfection rinse options and monitored wash temperatures. These features support a controlled laundry process but do not make the machine alone a guarantee of compliance.
For hygiene-sensitive sites, the full process should include:
- Correct segregation of clean and contaminated laundry.
- An appropriate validated programme with the required temperature and holding time.
- Controlled detergent and disinfectant dosing.
- Correct loading, handling, staff training and record keeping.
- A site-specific risk assessment and any relevant sector guidance.
The product sheets list CE, UKCA, VDE, VDE-EMC, IPX4 and Regulation 4 compliance markings. Final installation and operating requirements should still be confirmed for the individual site.
