Product Overview
The Miele PDR 516 SL ROP [EL] is a 12-16kg SlimLine vented commercial tumble dryer with a 300 litre drum, designed for sites that need high drying capacity without moving to a wider cabinet.
With a 711mm machine width, 31-minute Cottons/Normal reference programme, PerfectDry residual moisture control and diagonal airflow, it is built to support practical laundry throughput in hotels, care homes, laundrettes, commercial laundries, schools, sports facilities, holiday parks and larger shared laundry rooms.
This product page covers both electric finish variants. The GS model uses galvanised side panels where the sides are less visible. The IGS model uses powder-coated iron grey side panels where the machine sides are more visible and a consistent finish is preferred. Programme times depend on load, fabric type, residual moisture, ducting and selected settings.

Choosing the right machine
Is the Miele PDR 516 SL ROP the right model for your site?
The Miele PDR 516 SL ROP is a strong fit where a site needs more drying capacity than a compact commercial dryer, but still needs a relatively narrow machine width. It gives 12-16kg drying capacity in a 711mm SlimLine cabinet.
The main checks are simple but important: the site needs a suitable 400v, 25A three-phase supply, correctly designed exhaust ducting, enough make-up air, suitable access and a laundry workflow that can use this level of drying capacity.
When is this dryer a good fit?
This model is a good fit for busier commercial laundry rooms that need high drying capacity, fast turnaround and robust commercial construction, but where machine width is still a constraint.
It is especially worth considering where:
- You need 12-16kg drying capacity without moving to a wider dryer body.
- The site has, or can be adapted for, external exhaust ducting and make-up air.
- Daily laundry includes towels, bedding, uniforms, residents’ laundry, sports kit or workwear.
- You need a professional vented dryer for hotels, care homes, commercial laundries, laundrettes, schools, holiday parks or shared facilities.
- You want the option of galvanised sides or iron grey sides depending on how visible the machine sides will be.
It is usually best paired with suitably sized commercial washers so the dryer is not either under-used or overloaded as part of the daily laundry flow.

What should I check before choosing this model?
A vented dryer can be very effective in high-use environments, but the site services and installation design need to be checked before ordering.
Check the following before choosing this dryer:
- Electrical supply: this model requires 400v, 25A, three-phase electric supply.
- Exhaust ducting: the dryer is an exhaust air model, so it needs a suitable external vent route.
- Make-up air: the laundry room must allow sufficient replacement air for safe and effective drying.
- Access and handling: confirm doorway access, machine position, service access and floor suitability.
- Finish choice: choose GS for galvanised sides where side aesthetics matter less, or IGS for iron grey sides where the sides remain visible.
a&f can check the ventilation route, services and machine position before supply so the correct variant and installation plan are confirmed.
When might another model be better?
Another dryer may be a better choice if the site cannot support the services or airflow needed for a vented 400v commercial dryer, or if the capacity does not match the wider laundry process.
Consider another model where:
- External ducting is not possible: a heat pump or condenser dryer may be more appropriate.
- The site only has 230v single-phase power: a smaller dryer may be needed unless electrical work is planned.
- The workload is light: an 8kg or 10kg commercial dryer may be more proportionate.
- The laundry volume is very high: a larger Benchmark dryer may provide a better match.
- The washer capacity is much smaller: the dryer may be under-used unless there are several washers feeding it.
The right answer depends on the washer capacity, daily workload, duct route, available power and how quickly laundry needs to be turned around.
Services, utilities and installation checks
This is a vented exhaust air dryer with a 14.10 kW total connected load. The installation should be checked as part of the wider laundry room design, especially where the dryer is being added to an existing space.
Key installation points include:
- Power Required: 400v, 25A, three-phase electric.
- Drying system: exhaust air, with correctly designed ducting to atmosphere.
- Machine dimensions: H 1800 x W 711 x D 1089 mm.
- Weight and floor: net weight 145.7kg, maximum floor load 1664N.
- Operating environment: allow for heat output, make-up air, lint management and routine filter cleaning.
Programme times depend on the incoming load moisture level, fabric type, selected programme, ducting condition and room ventilation. A site check helps confirm realistic drying performance in the intended location.
Replacing an older model?
If you are replacing an older Miele vented dryer, the most important checks are capacity, power supply, ducting, footprint, door access, heat output and whether the existing laundry workflow still reflects the current workload.
This model may be relevant if you are replacing an older Miele PT8301 or PT8303 dryer. a&f can help confirm whether the PDR 516 SL ROP is the right current replacement, including the correct finish, services and ventilation requirements.
Relevant older Miele model references: PT8301, PT8303.
The GS and IGS versions are not different drying platforms. The main commercial difference is the side panel finish, so a replacement decision should normally focus on services, ventilation, capacity and the visible finish required in the laundry room.
Compliance, hygiene and environment
This model is a commercial tumble dryer. It does not provide thermal disinfection by itself. Hygiene outcomes depend on the wider laundry process, including the washer, wash programme, detergent choice, segregation, handling, staff routine and validation where required.
Points to keep in mind:
- Standards listed: CE, VDE, VDE-EMC, IPX4, WEEE, UKCA and Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
- Fire and lint management: vented dryers need good filter routines and correctly maintained ducting.
- Care, healthcare or veterinary sites: confirm the full laundry process rather than relying on the dryer alone.
- Energy and heat: the product data lists 0.55 kWh/kg specific energy consumption and 1.70 MJ/h heat dissipation.
- End-of-life consideration: the product sheet lists a 96% recycling rate.
a&f can help confirm whether this dryer is suitable alongside the washer, site services and operating process.
