Is the Miele PDR 522 ROP [G] the right model for me?
The Miele PDR 522 ROP [G] is a strong choice where a site needs a large-capacity, gas heated commercial dryer with controlled vented drying, high throughput and professional build quality.
It is best suited to busy laundry rooms where the site can provide the correct gas supply, 230v electrical supply, external exhaust ducting, sufficient make-up air and safe access for installation and servicing.
When is this dryer a good fit?
This model is a good fit where drying capacity, speed and gas heating make sense for the laundry room.
- Suitable for regular 16-22kg commercial drying loads.
- Good for care homes, hotels, commercial laundries, launderettes, schools, sports clubs and shared laundry environments.
- Useful where gas heating is available and preferred for the drying workload.
- Suitable where external exhaust ducting can be designed, checked and maintained.
- Useful where optional payment connection or connected machine management may be required.
What should I check before choosing this model?
The key checks are gas supply, electrical supply, ducting route, room ventilation, access and the match between washer output and dryer capacity.
- Confirm that a suitable gas supply is available for the 21.5kW gas heater rating.
- Confirm that the site can provide 230v, 10A electrical supply.
- Check that the exhaust route can be installed or reused safely.
- Check that the room has enough make-up air and avoids negative pressure issues.
- Confirm that staff can follow routine fluff filter cleaning and basic laundry handling procedures.
When might another model be better?
Another dryer may be better if the site cannot support gas, external ducting or the required daily throughput.
- Choose an electric vented model if gas is not available or not preferred.
- Consider a heat pump dryer where external ducting is not practical and the workload allows for heat pump drying characteristics.
- Consider a smaller dryer if the daily load does not justify a 16-22kg machine.
- Consider a larger dryer if the washers are regularly producing more laundry than this model can comfortably process.
- Review a full laundry-room design if several dryers need to share ducting or operate at the same time.
Services, utilities and installation checks
This is a gas heated vented dryer, so installation should be assessed before ordering. The machine requires an appropriate gas connection, 230v electrical supply, correct exhaust ducting and sufficient room ventilation.
- Electrical supply: 230v, 10A.
- Gas heater rating: 21.5kW.
- Drying system: vented exhaust air.
- Existing ducting should be checked before connection.
- Gas work must be carried out by a registered installation technician in line with applicable regulations.
For gas dryers, the site assessment should include the gas supply, exhaust route, make-up air, room conditions, safe isolation, access, duct length and whether other appliances could affect air pressure in the room.
Replacing an older model?
This model may be relevant when replacing older Miele commercial dryer ranges in a similar capacity and installation category. Project source data maps the current PDR922/522 family to older models including PT8507 and PT7501.
The product spreadsheet also lists gas-related search terms including PT 8337 Gas and PT 8507 Gas. These should be treated as search and replacement references, not an automatic like-for-like swap without a site check.
When replacing an older gas dryer, a&f should confirm the gas supply, exhaust route, electrical supply, duct condition, floor space, door access, control type and whether the existing laundry flow still matches the same dryer size.
Compliance, hygiene and environment
This dryer supports commercial laundry processing, but it should not be presented as a disinfection machine. Hygiene outcomes depend on the whole laundry process, including washing, segregation, handling, drying, staff procedure and site controls.
- The product sheet lists CE, UKCA, VDE, VDE-EMC, IPX4, DVGW gas and Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
- Gas installation and any gas conversion work must be handled by an appropriate registered specialist.
- Ventilation and ducting must be designed and maintained so the dryer can operate safely and reliably.
- Heavily soiled laundry should be washed thoroughly before drying.
- Routine filter care is essential for drying performance, safety and energy use.
